WHAT ARE COCKROACHES?
There are over 4000 different species of cockroaches in the world. However, there are only four species that are considered problem pests in New York: the American cockroach, the German cockroach, the Oriental cockroach and the brown-banded cockroach. Cockroaches are six legged insects that have two sets of wings. They range in size from 5/8 to 1 ½ inches in length.
Why are they in my house?
Cockroaches are attracted by food, warmth, shelter and moisture. They can be introduced into a home in bags, boxes, or luggage from just about anywhere. They may also simply come inside your house from outdoors while foraging for food. Cockroaches are nocturnal insects; some common places to find them are under the kitchen sink and under the refrigerator.
Are cockroaches dangerous?
Cockroaches are known to spread many different diseases and can cause serious health issues. They pick up many bacteria and pathogens while walking through infected areas and their droppings also contains bacteria. They can spread salmonella, cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and can cause asthma.
What does it take to get rid of cockroaches?
Cockroaches are very difficult to exterminate once they have infected an area.
