large brown stink bug

Stink bugs are small insects belonging to the order Hemiptera. They are often known as shield bugs, due to the triangular shape of their back. Adult stink bugs grow to a maximum length of a little less than an inch. Stink bugs have small glands located in their thorax that can emit a foul odor when the bug feels threatened or is squished.

Why are they in my house?

Like many other common New York pests, stink bugs often find their way indoors in search of a warm place to hide during the cold winter months. They gain entry through cracks and crevices around doors and windows, tears in screens and openings around pipes and vents.

Are stink bugs dangerous?

Stink bugs are not a threat to humans or pets and they will not breed inside your home. They are, however, considered an agricultural pest, as in large numbers they can severely damage orchards of fruits, vegetables and other crops.

What does it take to get rid of stink bugs?

Locating the source of the stink bug infestation is the key to stopping it and this can be difficult to achieve as the source of your infestation  is often outdoors. Parkway Pest Service’s technicians are trained in the most successful methods of finding and eliminating all sorts of New York pests. Contact us today to find out more about our stink bug control program.

How soon can you get here?

At Parkway, we understand that it is important to you to take care of your pest problem as soon as possible; therefore it is important to us, as well. Emergency and same day service is available and in most cases we can be there the very next day.

Is the treatment safe?

Here at Parkway Pest Services, we pride ourselves on being Green Shield Certified and we use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, which means our treatments are much safer for you and your family. IPM techniques include far fewer uses of chemicals, using them only as a last resort. Instead, we focus on baiting and the exclusion of pests.

How can I prevent a future infestation?

The most important step to preventing a stink bug infestation is to seal off all entry points. However, it is often very difficult to find all possible entry points, as these pests can enter through extremely small spaces. Many people in the Nassau, Suffolk and NYC areas choose one of Parkway’s protection plans for constant protection from stink bugs and many other common New York pests. Contact us today to find out how we can help protect your home or business.
