- Pay attention to areas where utilities go into your building, items such as air conditioners, wires and pipes.
- Repair broken basement windows and warped doors.
- Make sure all screens and door sweeps are in good repair.
- Install insect screening over vents and chimneys.
- Check all shingles to make sure they are tight, and that sheathing is complete.
- Place all garbage in tightly sealed containers, and store these containers in the garage, if possible.
- Store firewood away from your home and keep it up off the ground.
- Consider removing bird feeders, or place them well away from your home and other buildings.
- Keep your home clean, clutter-free and free from food particles and water sources for invading pests.
